Tales of Wonder 1

  1. Paul, I just want to thank you, that´s all,
For all of the songs that you´ve given us.
They live in us and just make the world seem
    Better, better, better…

Paul, we simply grew up with them all.
For years the whole world has been humming them
    And strumming them.
They just make the world seem better…

All those playful and passionate, haunting and humorous songs.
All those fragile and frivolous, moving and make-believe songs.

All those gentle and genial, rough and ridiculous songs.
All those joyful and jubilant, witty and whimsical,
Silly and serious, magical mystery songs.

Paul, they mean such a lot to us all.
Folks in the future will relish them
    And cherish them
Just as we all do now.
    Somehow,
They just make the world seem
    Better, better, better.
    Thank you, Paul.
    That’s all.

  2. It´s an old-fashioned song
    From an old-fashioned guy,
    Busking on the High Street,
    Playing for folks walking by.
    He won´t make the hit-parade,
Of that you can be sure.
´Cos they don´t make songs like this anymore.

    It´s an old-fashioned song,
    Full of old-fashioned words.
The guy just strums his old guitar
    And plays the old-fashioned chords.
The kids are simply blown away
    To hear this troubadour.
´Cos they don´t make songs like this anymore.

And if you feel you´d like to clap your hands - well, just do.
And if you feel you´d like to sing and dance - well, good for you.
And if you feel you´d like to throw a penny in his hat.
Well go along and do it, he´d appreciate that.
´Cos that is how a busker earns his pay,
He does it in the old-fashioned way.

    It´s an old-fashioned song
    With an old-fashioned beat.
The guy just keeps on strumming
And folks are tapping their feet.
They get that yearning feeling that no one can ignore,
´Cos they don´t make songs like this anymore.
No, they don´t make songs like this anymore.

  3. Don’t hurry, be floppy! Yeah!
Slow down! That´s the way it should be.

I met her down by the river one day, where I was doing some fishing.
She sort of tiptoed past me - I think she looked my way.
Well, the fish were simply not biting. What on Earth was I doing wrong?
It was then that she came up behind me and started singing this song:

    Don’t hurry be floppy!
Don’t hurry be floppy like me!
    Don’t hurry be floppy! Yeah!
Slow down! That´s the way it should be!

Half an hour later I had caught two fishes or three
And I sort of attempted to date her, but it wasn’t to be.
Later on she took me out dancing, although dancing´s not really for me.
But I simply relaxed and enjoyed it when she whispered encouragingly:

Time has gone by so quickly
And she´s given me tips galore
About fishing and dating and dancing,
And admittedly quite a lot more…

I’ve learned a lot from that lady, in fact she has turned out to be
The mother of my two children, who are sitting here on my knee.
And when the kids get over-excited, which believe me is not very nice,
We look at them ever so sweetly and give them this piece of advice:

    Don’t hurry be floppy!
Don’t hurry be floppy like me!
    Don’t hurry be floppy! Yeah!
Slow down! That´s the way it should be!
Slow down!... That´s the way it should be.
