Tales of Hope 3

  1. Paul McCartney, turned seventy,
    Bob Dylan turned seventy.
Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Billy Joel,
    All turned seventy.

Who´s alive and kicking, who´s going strong?
Who´s just ticking over till the end of their song?

    Randy Newman turned seventy,
    Paul Simon, turned seventy,
Elton John, Carole King, Eric Clapton,
    All turned 70.

Who´s alive and kicking, who´s going strong?
Who´s just ticking over till the end of their song?

John Lennon, David Bowie, Freddy Mercury:
They´re not kicking anymore, they´re not ticking anymore.

Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, George Harrison:
They´re not kicking anymore, they´re not ticking anymore.

    Going, going, gone.
    Going, going, gone.
    But the music lives on…

    Going, going, gone.
    Going, going, gone.

God knows when you’ll hear this song,
At what time in the future.
Well, I´m writing these lines in July 2019.

But the world keeps on turning,
    there´s a constant circulation.
And you think quite a lot about that,
    When you´ve turned seventy.

    We´re all going, going, gone.
    Going, going, gone.
    We´re all going, going, gone.
    Going, going, gone.
    But the music lives on…

  2. Now Berlin´s a town that lies on the River Spray - I mean Spree.
And you would think that´s a wonderful place to be.
Well it, it is, that´s what people say.
The problem just arises every time you go away.

You get the Berlin, Berlin, Berlin Blues.
You get the yearning, burning feeling in your shoes.
Got to get back, there is no time to lose.
You get the Berlin, Berlin, Berlin Blues.

Well a president came here from the U.S.A
He said: “Ich bin ein Berliner” – yes, it was JFK.
On his flight back home he said: “Yeah, the trip was great.
But there´s one thing about that city, that I hate…”:

You get the Berlin, Berlin, Berlin Blues.
You get the yearning, burning feeling in your shoes.
Got to get back, there is no time to lose.
You get the Berlin, Berlin, Berlin Blues.

You've heard of Ms. Dietrich, the one they called Marlene.
She used to have a Koffer – a suitcase – in Berlin.
She did, she did, got hooked on the place they say.
It happened long ago but the same things happen today.

So, people gather round, and let me bend your ear.
If you´re once in Berlin you simply want to linger here.
You do, you do, cos there´s no place to compare.
But remember people that you have to be beware.

You get the Berlin, Berlin, Berlin Blues.
You get the yearning, burning feeling in your shoes.
Got to get back, there is no time to lose.
You get the Berlin, Berlin, Berlin Blues.

    Yeah, the Berlin Blues.

  3. Morning comes, he´s lying in his bed,
And under the covers he´s safe and sound.

Still a young man, thinks a lot about dying.
The morning calls him and he hides his face

    And he thinks he´s crazy
And he thinks he´ll lose his mind.
    And he thinks he´s stalling,
With the earth beneath him falling,
That he´s bound to end up
    Breaking through the line.

Work is bore, it´s an office job.
They say it´s a good start – what a start!

Mostly he´s dreaming, talks to the window:
Don´t want to be here, cannot stay.

    And he thinks he´s crazy
And he thinks he´ll lose his mind.
    And he thinks he´s stalling,
With the earth beneath him falling,
That he´s bound to end up
    Breaking through the line.

Now he´s into the open and he feels he´s flying.
The sun in his face, wind in his hair!

Years into moments and he´s climbing a mountain.
He looks back down with a smile inside.

    And they think he´s crazy,
And they think he´ll lose his mind.
    And they say he´s stalling,
With the earth beneath him falling,
That he´s bound to end up
    Breaking through the line.

    But the boy´s not crazy
And the man won´t lose his mind.
    And he´s stopped his stalling,
And the earth´s no longer falling,
And he has no fear of
    Breaking through the line.

    He has no fear of
    Breaking through the line.
    No, no...
    He has no fear of
    Breaking through the line.
