FROTH AND BUBBLE

  1. Life is mostly froth and bubble.
    Two things stand like stone:
    Kindness in another´s troubles,
    Courage in your own.

Thank you, Adam, for writing those lines.
They were some of your best and most of us agree
That you put things in a nutshell.
And that´s the secret of poetry.

They are touching, quiet words of the edifying kind
And I´ve put them to music, I hope that´s okay.
If you turn in your grave, I´m sorry,
But it’s too late to ask you now.

Life is mostly froth and bubble.
    Two things stand like stone:
    Kindness in another´s troubles,
    Courage in your own.

I´d like to ask you, Adam, a question or two
About your inner life and what went on in your mind.
I read about your difficult childhood,
    About your love for horses.

Well, you rode out one morning in June 1870.
You were only 37 and put an end to your story.
    I have a picture of a loner,
Just a man and his horse and a rifle.

Life is mostly froth and bubble.
    Two things stand like stone:
    Kindness in another´s troubles,
    Courage in your own.

    Courage in your own.
