1. Walking Backwards

   I turned on the news today, heard the commentator say:

   There´s a strange upheaval in the land.

   This is not completely new, but reports are coming through

   That things are somehow getting out of hand.

    

   Everybody´s walking backwards

   Everybody´s walking backwards

   But do they have a clue

   Where they´re all heading to?

    

   Turned the television on: Was it true or just a con?

   These days so much turns out to be fake.

   But there they were the TV crews,

   headline banners, breaking news,

   With talk of measures we might have to take.

   They say that it´s the latest trend

   But no-one knows where it will end.

   But do they have a clue

   Where they´re all heading to?

    

   Still do not believe my eyes

   Look outside and recognise

   People that I know down in the street.

   Heads all pointing to the ground,    

   No-one even turning round

   The neighbourhood now beating a retreat.      

    

   Everybody´s walking backwards (x3)

   Is anybody walking forwards?

    

   Now the movements spread abroad, going right across the board

   An epidemic, not just an infection.

   Is this the new mobility? A challenge to democracy?

   For sure it´s going in the wrong direction.

   Better go fly
   Better go fly like a bird
   Way up high
   No come down.

   Must go fast
   No slow down.

   I don´t want to land, I´m afraid to land

3. Down By the Sea

   On the 1st. of May we spent the day

   Down by the sea.

   Hand in hand in a far-off land,

   Down by the sea.

   A world away on city streets    

   People were marching for their rights,    

   With banners and flags – and where were we?  

   Down by the sea.

   Down by the sea.

    

   So the sun shines, and I write these lines

   Down by the sea.

   Feeling happy and high as the days go by

   Down by the sea.

   There we were, you and me,

   Enjoying each other´s company.

   The soles of our feet in the warmth of the sand,

   Walking the shore with our faces tanned.

   And time going by so peacefully,

   Down by the sea.

   Now we´re into June, it´s a different tune

   Down by the sea.

   There are boats going down and thousands drown,

   Down, down in the sea.

   So many people on the run.

   Nobody knows what should be done.

   What´s happening to humanity?

   Is this really the 21st century?

   Why don´t these problems just go away?

   I´m thinking back to the 1st of May

   When my head was light and my heart was free  

   Down by the sea.
